CLIENT'S CHALLENGE—

Geordee has been working on building her coaching business for a while on her own. She wanted to know how to clearly articulate who she is, what she does, and who she works for as a coach.

She was ready to start to build her brand and share her voice so she can make coaching her primary business and be known for what she’s best at: helping young leaders step into their full power and potential.

Although she was ready, she felt alone in the journey and was not finding the right direction. She realized she didn't have the capacity to put towards this her self and needed a guide to help her get her business and brand to where she wanted it to be.

THE GOALS—

Grow Geordee’s clients so she can do the capacity building part-time.

Define the type of coaching she does and expand her services beyond 1:1 coaching.

Launch a website or social media to start putting the brand out there and sharing her voice through writing.

THE STRATEGY—

One thing that Geordee and I understood was there are a lot of transformational coaches out there, so it was key for Geordee to know her ultimate vision as a solid foundation for her ‘WHY’. It is this ‘WHY’ that will set Geordee apart from her competitors in her space.

We positioned her as someone who has been there and done the work, and now knows how help others heal in the way they needed it as organizers. The goal was for clients to feel seen, inspired and hopeful. It’s important for the audience to feel connected to her, so we wanted her experience, empathy and credibility to shine throughout.

To do this, we solidified her positioning and honed into the impact she brings to her clients. By highlighting messages of hope and inspiration and bringing Geordee's heart and experience into the brand, a deeper connection can be felt by her audience towards her and her mission, allowing them to be clear about what she does and stands for.

COLOR PALETTE

The color palette is based on the energy we wanted to bring to the brand that stems from Geordee's fun and playful personality. It needed to feel fun, bold, modern, gender-neutral and bright without feeling childish, too feminine or masculine or too colorful. We chose to ground the orange/red with the green and black and use a lot of white and cream so it feels bright and not too overly saturated. The end goal was to make her potential clients feel inspired, energized and excited to dive into their journey.

TYPOGRAPHY—

The brand typography consists of a modern geometric typeface (Galano Grotesque) that has a friendly feel. We chose only one typeface that can work across the board to keep the brand minimal, simple and clean.

Playful iconography was designed to represent Geordee's five brand values that were narrowed down during the strategy process (belonging, connection, playfulness, freedom, and purpose).

The biggest impact I've had is that now I'm telling my story. The copy and messaging—it makes me feel like I am who I want to be as a coach. It makes it so much easier to talk about it with my people. All of these things were in hiding and seeing them now on the site gives me freedom to just own it. I've been trying to find my voice through my writing and this process has really helped me with that.

For women of color particularly, there’s internalization that happens that blocks us from that but we don’t have to do it in the way we see others do it, we can do it in our own way. 

The strategy process helped me see that although there are a lot of us in this coaching space, the landscape all looks the same. So it was insightful to see my niche is actually really needed in this space and I could hyper-lean into the playfulness I bring even though I do serious work. I never would have thought that was possible because of what I saw out there. 

Our conversation helped me confirm Donaji was the person that I should be doing this with. The way in which she presents what building a brand means, is about claiming the who I am and what I’m doing in this world. 

Through our time together, I saw what I deeply want in what she reflects back. It’s not about creating the end product but more about what we actually want to manifest through it. So I love how she focuses on the branding process around my goals because when I look back at those goals now, that’s exactly what I’m starting to accomplish. And this process helped put that in motion.

I also know that this process was something I did for myself, it was MY time but the result has helped friends and colleagues see what the possibilities are for their own business and brand.
